Job Overview
A Stroke Consultant is a senior physician responsible for the diagnosis, acute management, and long-term care of patients with stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. This role involves leading stroke units, hyperacute stroke services, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical management of stroke patients, from hyperacute care to rehabilitation.
- Lead stroke thrombolysis and thrombectomy pathways, ensuring timely interventions.
- Supervise and coordinate care in acute stroke units, stroke rehabilitation wards, and outpatient follow-ups.
- Collaborate with neurologists, radiologists, physiotherapists, and speech therapists for comprehensive stroke care.
- Participate in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and national stroke audits.
- Teach and mentor junior doctors, medical students, and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to service development, stroke prevention programs, and guideline implementation.
Requirements
- Possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
- Clinical experience in Stroke Medicine and at least one of the following: Acute Medicine, General Medicine, Neurology, or Geriatrics.
- Experience working in an NHS or UK hospital setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills in stroke care.
- Experience in teaching, research, and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
