Job Overview

A Clinical Oncology Consultant is a senior specialist responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer using radiotherapy, systemic therapies (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy), and supportive care. They work in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to provide personalized treatment plans, lead research initiatives, and contribute to service development and medical education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical care for patients with cancer, ensuring tailored treatment approaches.
  • Develop and oversee radiotherapy and systemic therapy treatment plans, working with medical physicists and radiographers.
  • Lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, collaborating with surgeons, pathologists, and palliative care teams.
  • Participate in clinical trials and research to advance cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes.
  • Supervise and train junior doctors, registrars, and medical students in oncology care.
  • Ensure adherence to national and international oncology guidelines and contribute to service development.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects, audits, and governance activities to enhance cancer services.

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification with full GMC registration.
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Clinical Oncology (or within six months of completion).
  • Expertise in radiotherapy planning and systemic therapies for various cancers.
  • Strong leadership and multidisciplinary team collaboration skills.
  • Active involvement in research, teaching, and service development.
