Job Overview
We are seeking a General Adult Psychiatry Consultant to provide expert psychiatric care for adults with a broad range of mental health disorders, delivering high-quality treatment and support within an inpatient or community setting. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in adult psychiatry, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and be able to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults with mental health disorders such as mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and personality disorders.
- Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Work closely with a team of psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care for patients.
- Treatment Planning: Develop, implement, and regularly review personalized care plans for patients, ensuring evidence-based approaches are followed.
- Leadership and Supervision: Take a leading role in clinical decision-making, provide supervision, and mentor junior staff, including psychiatric trainees, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Risk Assessment and Management: Carry out comprehensive risk assessments, ensuring appropriate management strategies are in place, including crisis intervention plans and safeguarding concerns.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure that clinical work is in line with NICE guidelines, local protocols, and relevant regulatory standards, including maintaining S12 and AC status.
- Teaching and Education: Provide training and teaching sessions for staff, including both formal and informal educational opportunities, and support medical students in their psychiatric training.
- Crisis Intervention: Be involved in emergency assessments and treatment in a crisis setting, including liaising with emergency services and overseeing acute care management.
- Service Development: Participate in the continuous development and improvement of services, engaging in audits, research, and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care.
Requirements
- Essential Qualifications:
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with Specialist Registration in Psychiatry.
- S12 and AC status is essential for this role.
- Experience: At least 6 months working as a Consultant within the specialism of adult psychiatry is desirable.
- Clinical Experience: Experience in managing a wide variety of adult psychiatric disorders, including complex and high-risk cases.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage a caseload of patients with diverse mental health conditions and provide appropriate risk management.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered care.
- Ability to teach and supervise junior staff and contribute to the development of psychiatric services.
- Knowledge of current best practices in general adult psychiatry, as well as familiarity with relevant legislation and guidelines.
- Desirable Experience:
- Previous experience in an NHS setting and familiarity with the mental health services in the UK.
- Involvement in audit, research, or quality improvement projects is highly desirable.
- Experience of working in acute inpatient settings or with complex patients requiring multi-agency collaboration.
