Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Respiratory Consultant to join our dynamic and innovative team. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical care in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory conditions, while contributing to the development of services within the respiratory department. The role involves leading clinical services, engaging in multidisciplinary team work, and participating in the education and training of junior medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the care of patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions, including but not limited to asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and respiratory infections.
- Conduct outpatient clinics, providing assessment, diagnosis, and management of respiratory disorders.
- Provide inpatient care for respiratory patients, including the management of respiratory failure, acute exacerbations, and post-operative care.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions for complex cases, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
- Oversee the management of respiratory services, ensuring high standards of care and patient safety are consistently met.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, ensuring their professional development and competency in respiratory medicine.
- Participate in the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols to improve patient outcomes.
- Contribute to the education and training of medical students, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals in respiratory medicine.
- Engage in clinical audits, research, and quality improvement projects to enhance the respiratory service.
- Take part in on-call duties for respiratory services, providing clinical expertise in emergencies.
- Participate in the service's strategic planning and future development, working to improve services for both inpatients and outpatients.
Requirements
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and evidence of entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of the interview.
- Extensive experience in respiratory medicine, with expertise in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of respiratory conditions.
- Experience in leading and managing clinical teams and services.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to continuous professional development, including engaging in research, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Experience in teaching and mentoring junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of current clinical guidelines and best practices in respiratory medicine.
