Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Acute Medicine Consultant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical care to patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, playing a pivotal role in the delivery of high-quality acute medical services. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to manage complex and critically ill patients in the acute medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the care of patients admitted to the acute medical unit, providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a broad spectrum of acute medical conditions.
  • Participate in daily ward rounds, making decisions about patient management and treatment plans.
  • Provide expert advice and clinical leadership for junior doctors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Oversee the acute medical admissions and work closely with the emergency department, ensuring efficient patient flow and appropriate treatment.
  • Collaborate with other specialties for joint patient care and ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient management.
  • Contribute to the delivery and improvement of acute medical services, including developing clinical guidelines, protocols, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Take part in on-call duties and provide cover for other medical specialties as needed.
  • Participate in teaching, training, and mentoring junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in clinical audits, research, and evidence-based practice to continuously improve patient care.

Requirements

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and evidence of entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of the interview.
  • Extensive experience in acute medicine, with a deep understanding of the management of complex medical cases.
  • Strong leadership and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in teaching, training, and mentoring junior medical staff.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development, including engagement in clinical research and audit activities.
