Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Rheumatologist to join our multidisciplinary team, providing expert care for patients with rheumatological conditions. The role involves the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a variety of autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outpatient clinics for the assessment and management of patients with inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, osteoporosis, and other rheumatologic conditions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary team discussions, collaborating with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, specialist nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests, including blood investigations, imaging (X-rays, MRI, ultrasound), and synovial fluid analysis.
  • Administer and monitor biologic therapies and other disease-modifying treatments.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols to enhance patient care.
  • Engage in audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the rheumatology department.
  • Supervise and provide training to junior doctors, specialist nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Provide inpatient consultation services for patients referred from other specialties.
  • Contribute to medical education and training programs within the hospital.

Requirements

  • GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register in Rheumatology (or within 6 months of CCT).
  • Experience in managing a wide range of rheumatological conditions, including inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
  • Competence in joint and soft tissue injections.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Experience in service development and quality improvement is desirable.
  • Commitment to teaching and training junior medical staff.
