Job Overview

This is a CAMHS Crisis/MARRS role focused on providing immediate and high-quality mental health care to children and adolescents in crisis. The role is based at Sowenna (Bodmin) and will involve working with young people facing acute mental health challenges, assessing risks, and providing interventions as part of the Mental Health Assessment and Risk Response Service (MARRS). This is an on-site position, ensuring direct patient engagement and support.

Responsibilities

  1. Crisis Intervention and Management:

    • Provide urgent assessment and management for children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises.
    • Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations and risk assessments to inform immediate care.
    • Offer interventions to ensure the safety and well-being of young people in crisis.
  2. MARRS Team Collaboration:

    • Work as part of the Mental Health Assessment and Risk Response Service (MARRS), collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated care.
    • Support children and adolescents requiring emergency psychiatric intervention, collaborating closely with CAMHS professionals, social services, and local healthcare providers.
  3. Patient Care and Safety:

    • Deliver evidence-based clinical care and therapeutic interventions to manage and reduce acute distress in young people.
    • Act as a key part of the team in responding to complex mental health needs, using clinical judgment to ensure appropriate treatment pathways.
  4. Multidisciplinary Teamwork and Support:

    • Collaborate closely with a team of healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other mental health practitioners.
    • Participate in regular case reviews and contribute to multidisciplinary team decision-making processes.
  5. Crisis Protocols and Care Pathways:

    • Work within existing crisis management protocols to ensure structured and efficient care.
    • Provide input into the development and improvement of local crisis care pathways and services.
  6. Patient and Family Liaison:

    • Offer guidance and support to families and carers, providing them with tools and strategies to manage their child’s mental health.
    • Support family members in understanding the nature of the crisis and the treatment process.
  7. Risk Management and Documentation:

    • Ensure all assessments, interventions, and care plans are thoroughly documented in line with organizational policies and safeguarding protocols.
    • Actively engage in risk management practices to minimize harm to patients and staff during crisis situations.
  8. Ongoing Professional Development:

    • Participate in regular clinical supervision, training, and development opportunities to ensure personal and professional growth.
    • Keep up-to-date with the latest research, guidelines, and best practices in CAMHS crisis intervention and management.

Requirements

  • S12 approval is required for this role, ensuring the candidate is legally approved to work in the area of mental health assessment.
  • AC status is preferred, or the candidate should be actively working towards obtaining it.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in CAMHS or working in mental health services, particularly with crisis management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child and adolescent mental health and the ability to manage complex cases effectively.
  • Ability to assess and manage high-risk patients in a fast-paced, emotionally challenging environment.

  • Knowledge of local services and networks within CAMHS and related areas of mental health care.
