Job Overview

The Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) – SPR/CT3 Level is a senior clinical role within the emergency department, responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients presenting with urgent and emergency conditions. The role requires advanced clinical decision-making skills, autonomous practice, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced Clinical Assessment: Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking, physical examination, and ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Autonomous Decision-Making: Diagnose and manage a wide range of minor injuries, acute conditions, and medical emergencies, working independently within agreed protocols.
  • Treatment & Procedures: Provide treatments such as wound care, suturing, fracture management, prescribing medications (if qualified), and referring patients for specialist care as needed.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with emergency physicians, nurses, paramedics, and allied health professionals to deliver efficient and effective care.
  • Teaching & Supervision: Support the training and development of junior staff, medical students, and nursing colleagues in emergency care skills and protocols.
  • Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement: Participate in audits, research, and service improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and care standards within the emergency department.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with NMC registration and extensive emergency care experience.
  • Advanced clinical skills in emergency care, including independent patient management.
  • Evidence of working at SPR/CT3 level (or equivalent experience in emergency medicine).
  • Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification (desirable).
  • ALS/ATLS/PALS certification and experience in managing critically unwell patients.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced emergency setting.
